Pulling to One Side

When you hit the brakes, pressurized brake fluid forces the calipers above each wheel to close on the wheel rotors simultaneously. Each caliper contains a brake pad, which is forced against the spinning rotor when the caliper closes on the rotor. The brake pad generates friction, which slows and stops the wheel. If your Chrysler pulls to one side when you apply the brakes, you have a brake problem.

The two main causes of pulling to one side are a damaged caliper and a blockage in the brake hose leading to a caliper. Calipers can get damaged by stones or other hard objects thrown up from the surface, and they can also jam if they’re rusted. A blocked hose prevents brake fluid from reaching the caliper and causing it to close. We’ll investigate and repair the problem.

Soft Brake Pedal

Brake fluid is highly pressurized to generate the force required to stop the wheels. You’ll feel resistance when you depress the brake pedal, and the pressurized fluid causes this resistance. As you apply more force, you’ll feel increased resistance. If you feel little resistance from the pedal, this is a sign something is wrong with your brakes.

Low brake pressure can be due to a fluid leak, a blockage in one or more brake hoses, or damage to the brake master cylinder that controls the braking system. Since pressure is essential for forcing the brakes to work, low pressure reduces braking effectiveness and increases braking distance, and this can cause an accident. Screeching Noises

Screeching noises might sound good in a movie, but they’re not pleasant if you hear them each time you apply the brakes. Fortunately, this issue isn’t dangerous but you need a brake service. As we saw above, each pad has a rough material covering the causing friction, and this material wears down over time.

Once the pad material wears down to 1/4″:thickness, a pad needs replacement. The pad manufacturers install a warning device inside each pad to alert you the pad needs to be changed. This device is a spike that scratches against the rotor, producing an awful screeching noise. Once we replace the worn pads, the screeching will stop.
