Blocked Drain Tube

Air contains moisture which must be removed before cooling takes place. Refrigerant changes from a gas to a liquid, absorbing water from the air in the process. This water is then directed to the evaporator heater box, where it slowly drains out of your Jeep via the drain tube. This pipe is the source of the water you’ll often see underneath your vehicle on a hot day.

The tube can become blocked by bacteria or other material, and this causes the box to rapidly fill and overflow. Since the box is positioned behind the firewall on the front passenger side, the water will seep through and gather on the carpet. We can easily fix this problem by replacing the tube to allow the box to drain normally again and then cleaning the carpet with antibacterial liquid.

Broken Compressor Clutch

The compressor is the most important part of your AC, as it forces air and refrigerant through the system, enabling the AC to chill the air. It doesn’t run continuously but switches on and off at carefully timed intervals to move the chilling process along. The compressor is controlled by the compressor clutch, which switches it on and off when necessary.

A clutch can fail due to age or wear and tear, and this prevents the compressor from starting. If the compressor won’t switch on, your AC won’t work. Our technicians will examine the clutch and replace it if it fails. Once the clutch works correctly, the compressor will switch on and off as normal and your cabin will become refreshingly cold again.

Refrigerant Leaks

Refrigerant is essential for your AC, as we saw above. It’s maintained in an airtight system to keep it pressurized. In time, regular wear and tear can create a leak in this system, and refrigerant will escape. Refrigerant evaporates on contact with the external air, leaving only a slightly oily residue behind it. This makes a leak almost impossible to spot with the naked eye.

We add a UV dye to your AC and then watch the dye’s progress through the system using a specialized UV reader. Once we identify the leak site, we’ll seal it and refill your refrigerant.
